Last Friday the Pelahatchie Chiefs traveled to West Lincoln to face the Bears. The Chiefs played efficiently offensively as they put up 56 points, as they also played efficiently on defense keeping the Bears scoreless the entire game.

After the dominant performance made by the Chiefs against the Bears, there was one player’s performance that stood out beyond the others. This performance came from senior quarterback, Javeious “JP” Purvis.

He finished the game with 220 overall offensive yards, 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception returned for a touchdown, and 5 total touchdowns.

After this game Purvis was nominated to be WAPT’s Blitz 16 player of the week.

Two other finalists who were also nominated for Player of the week were, Kinkhead Dent, senior quarterback for Jackson Academy, and Joe Pearson, junior running back for St. Joseph Catholic School.

Purvis received 49 percent of the votes for Player of the week over Dent’s 25 percent and Pearson’s 26 percent.

This is Purvis’ second year winning Blitz 16 Player of the week, as he also won Player of the week last year.

This isn’t the first time Purvis’ skill and talent has contributed to other positive opportunities, as he has received offers to play at numerous colleges.

However, Purvis has committed to Mississippi State University.

After winning this award he said,“I just go out every night to play hard for my team. Any award I win is because of the team as a whole.”

Purvis and the Chiefs have a home game this week, and are set square off against the Mount Olive Pirates.
