The city of Pelahatchie  shook around lunchtime on September 10, 2018. An explosion occurred in the Jackson Commodities building.

The explosion shook Pelahatchie High School and caught students and faculty by surprise.

The BOOM had many students at Pelahatchie High School stunned; many were worried about what happened. According to Kelreiz Stokes, a junior at Pelahatchie High, “I had my earphones in and I felt it shake the lunch room, and I didn’t know what to do.”

Also, “It scared me because it made me think something was going on at our school that could hurt all the students,” said Aliza Myers, a junior at Pelahatchie High School.

The explosion was caused by vapor ignited and blew off the top of one of the welding vessels, all the way into the parking lot.

There were not any injuries reported, but there was damage. For a while now, the building has been under construction and was just getting ready to open for the public.

The owners of the building are hoping to get the damages fixed and open it up for business.
