You Just Got Served With A New Sport: Volleyball
Pelahatchie High School has added a new sport to the list: volleyball. Since 2015, many girls have been pushing the administrators to let the school have a girls volleyball team. PHS has never had a volleyball team before. The sport was wanted by many, and at one point there was a petition going around that was created by Zharia Holifield that had several signatures.
Unfortunately, there were said to be many complications involving the idea of having a volleyball team, such as who would be the coach and not having enough funds; they would even have to take slow pitch away. Students offered to create fundraisers to help with the funds, but that was not accepted.
During the 2018-2019 school year, PHS hired many new teachers and also a new principal. Our new principal, Teague Burchfield, allowed the school to finally have one. Nikki Nutt, the new Algebra III teacher, will be the coach for the girls volleyball team. “For the 2018-2019 year I will be starting the volleyball program and I am super excited to about this opportunity,” said Nutt.
Volleyball tryouts will be held on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26 at 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the gym. The participants must have up-to-date physicals, tennis shoes, t-shirt, and shorts. Many girls are excited for this opportunity to be involved in a new sport at PHS.
