Chiefs Hosting South State Track Meet
After a good start to the track season with the Chiefs coming in second between 2A and 3A schools in their first practice track meet, they wanted to keep that same energy and confidence throughout the season.
The Chiefs traveled to St. Andrews and participated in their second track meet of the season. Despite, the Chiefs not placing well in long distance events, they made up for this by placing well in most relays, short distance dashes, long jump, and high jump.
However, with the Chiefs lacking in long distance events they placed second out of the 2A schools who attended the meet, in their second track meet for the season. The Chiefs’ rivals, Pisgah Dragons, placed first, as they placed well in multiple long distance events.
April 11, the Chiefs traveled back to St. Andrews to compete in their third track meet. With them placing well in certain events at the previous meet, the Chiefs were able to move on to Regionals and also compete against similar 2A schools from the last track meet. With the Chiefs strong-suit being in relay events, they competed and placed well in multiple relay events, long jump, and triple jump.
Even with this strong performance, the Chiefs came up short of placing first throughout the 2A schools that attended the track meet, and placed second. Again, the Chiefs were placed behind the Pisgah Dragons, who competed strongly in long distance events and other events.
“Regardless of the situation, I’m going hard in all my event,” said long jump and triple jump participant, Ahmad Johnson.
The Chiefs will now be hosting the next track meet at Northwest Rankin High School on April 27. This will be the South State track meet.
